The product maintenance area is where you can add, edit, or delete products (items) from your store database. This area is organized by categories in your store. Note: Although products are added to a single category, they can easily be linked to other categories in your store. For example, you can add "Thongs" to your "Footwear" category and also link them to your "Swimwear" Category. Category Navigation The first time you enter the area you will start at the top level of categories and can navigate to the category in which you want to maintain products by clicking on a sub-category. As you navigate down the category tree, the categories you navigated through will be displayed at the top of this page. To retreat back up the tree, click on the name of the category you wish to go to. At each level you will see either a list of sub-categories, or an "Add Product" link and possibly also a list of products. Note: Products can be added to a Category at any level in your store, unless the Category has sub-categories. Once a product is added to a category, you cannot add sub-categories without first moving the products to a different category. Also note that categories without products are not displayed on your store. Adding a New Product Once you reach a sub-category where products can be added, if you have not reached the maximum number of products in your store, you can add more products by clicking on the Add Product link. This will take you to a blank product details page where you can enter the product information. See Editing Product Details. Editing a Product If you have already added products to this category, you will also see these listed below this link. To edit the product details for a previously entered product, click on its name in the list. See Editing Product Details. You will also see a set of buttons for each product in the list to the right of the product. These buttons allow you to assign or change product ordering options (i.e., size, color), assign category linkages for the product, copy the product, delete the product, or change the display order within this category. These are described more fully below: Options Click here to add or remove ordering options (i.e., size, color, mongramming) for the product. Copy Item — Click here to copy all the details about this product to a new product. This is very helpful for adding similar products to your store. After you click this button, you will be taken directly to the product detail form for the new product, where you can make necessary changes. Delete — You can delete a product if there have never been any orders for it. If there have been orders and you no longer want to offer the product in your store, you may make the product inactive on the product detail page. Move — Click on the arrows to arrange the products in the order you wish to have them viewed when the shopper is viewing this category. |
